Construction update: New STEM labs coming, whole project ahead of schedule

The construction continues, but we have already seen significant changes that improve the condition of our school. All of the restrooms are finished, three regular classrooms are finished, and the art room is mostly finished.

According to Principal McKeag, the construction is ahead of schedule right now. The main entrance will probably open at the end of December, and the office staff and Principal McKeag will be able to move into the new main office. The classrooms that are blocked off right now will be open too, so many teachers and classes are going to move into the new classrooms right after the New Year, if not before.

Most of the classrooms being used now will be blocked off next so that the construction workers can start working on those. The cafeteria, media center, new STEM robotics lab and new STEM fitness lab will be completed this summer.

According to Principal McKeag, the new fitness lab is a place to test, evaluate, retest, and collaborate. It mixes a whole lot of different types of powerlifting, olympic lifting, running, gymnastics, etc.

We will not get a lot of new rooms from this project, but we will get a new fab lab with the other new labs. Mr. McKeag thinks the labs are a really important part of the project and our school. “This is a place where you can go and use your creativity and put your ideas together,” Mr. McKeag said.

Construction is scheduled to be done by August of 2018, so we have less than a year left before we see all the ways our school will be better for learning.
