Zoos should be banned

Zoos are fun experiences for everyone. We get to learn about beautiful, exotic animals that most of us don’t get to see often. We also get to hang out with friends and family, but it is not this way for the animals that stay here. We should get rid of all zoos. When animals are taken away from their natural environmental habitat, and when they get released back in the wild, they can’t survive.
Some animals even travel hundreds of miles each year and get put into a habitat a fraction of the size, with no space to run. The animals have people staring and pointing at them through the glass. They can’t get away from it, because most zoo enclosures don’t have space for the animals to hide. Some of the animals get taken away from their natural climates. Animals like penguins and polar bears who live in the freezing cold, get put into zoo enclosures that are a lot warmer. The animals don’t have variety in what they get fed, either. They get the same meals each day at the exact same time.
The animals become dependant on humans when they’re in captivity. When animals are in captivity, they lose their natural instincts.”
The animals become dependant on humans when they’re in captivity. When animals are in captivity, they lose their natural instincts. Then, when they get released back into the wild, the animals can’t survive and a lot of them die. The animals look for humans to take care of them and fed them, but when they can’t find them, they don’t know what to do. They can’t find any food, so they starve to death.
Zoos aren’t safe for humans, either. Some of the animals are very unhappy so they lash out, hurt, or even kill people. Most of the time, the animals hurt workers or trainers. In 2016, a 3-year-old climbed over a fence and got into an endangered gorillas cage. The workers ending up having to shoot the gorilla to save the kid. This wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t have zoos.
We should get rid of the zoo because they take the animals away from their natural habitat, the animals can’t live in the wild anymore, and zoos aren’t safe for anyone. Some people say that animals in zoos live longer, but even though they could live longer, they live an unhappy and lonely life. We should not put animals in zoos.

I think zoos are bad and also good. Its bad because its not fair for the animals. its good because if animals are sick they can be taken care of.
Hanna Martin • Jan 8, 2021 at 1:01 pm
zoos should most definitely be banned the only reason zoos started was because in the late 18th century the rich wanted to show there power by capturing animals and keeping them in cages so only they could see. The only reason the gorilla was acting out was probably because it wasn’t happy and of course that kids parents or guardian should’ve noticed the 3 year old was climbing the fence and if the gorilla would have been left in the wild that wouldn’t have happened there are so many stories of zoo animals and aquatic animals killing and seriosly hurtng there trainers and even kids. That would’ve never of happend if zoos were banned nobody and nothing wants to be anyware else than with there family at home. Did you know in Europe up to 5,000 animals are killed each year in the zoo how sad is that. 🙁

I’m doing an essay for my school and I think that if we keep zoos we should give better conditions.
Also R.I.P Harambe, I mean where was that kids parents.
And merry Christmas!!!

first of you need to do research on how zoos should not be ban. Because then you would know that in the wild the all ready struggle from habitat loss and food shortages. I know I get where your coming from but, most people would rather be behind bars and be fed than struggle with being killed or not having food. This year in California hundreds of thousands acres have been burned. Destroying habitats for animals they have no where to go so they will simply just die off, that is where Zoos come in to save those animals. and know you want to come in and say that they are just horiable places also the gorilla he could of gotten killed in the wild just as easly.

Yes i finally see a stand with these poor animals I seen animals being starved and left into the cold I am doing this in school right now i am Just a 6th Grader. I see many people saying in these comments the disagree. But you know whats right and I highly appreciate that. So I am working on Should zoos be banned. Also R.I.P Harambe Poor animal who had to suffer. But it would also be highly expensive to ban zoos i would just say If you see a animal who is in need go save it and let it be free

Animals should be free in the wild, not stuck up in some tiny cage, even if it resembles the wild. I think that zoos should have larger space, animals better cared for, and a variety of meals. I have seen a cheetah pacing back and forth in it’s tiny pen.(And cheetahs are known for running!) It was just sad to watch. maybe zoos shouldn’t be banned, but they should at least have better conditions for animals!

Zoos save Animal’s lives, because the zoos take in animals with injuries, disabilities, or are going extinct. So I disagree with you.
Marta Schneider • Jul 14, 2020 at 6:38 pm
FYI: besides being taken away from their natural habitat, (2) mother animals are killed in order to have their babies taken away; (3) animals travel , yes, 100s of miles to reach their destination IF THEY SURVIVE; 70% of these animals die before reaching their tragic destination; (4) most of these animals are part of the horrific ANIMAL TRAFFICKING, one of the most powerful ways to get easy money. One thing is AN ANIMAL SANCTUARY; SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IS A ZOO. Think again, please. Thank you.

Zoos have been holding animals captive and keeping them in cages since 1500 B.C.. Animals need to be in their own environment, having no limits to what they can do or where they can go, not kept in captivity for our own amusement. Everyone always says that animal cruelty needs to stop and that animal abusers should be locked away behind bars… and then you immediately turn around and go to a zoo for a so-called ‘vacation’? Have you ever thought about the animal’s well-being over your own? Zoos are not a vacation for the animal, it’s more like a personal Hell. This is why I do not support zoos one bit and believe that all of the zoos should be shut down and all of the animals that are kept in cages there should be released back into their home environment.
I wrote this for my introductory paragraph for an essay I’m writing 😛

If you are going to argue that zoos help endangered species number’s rise, think about it this way: the endangered animals in the wild are going to have a harder time finding mates if zoos take them out of the wild.
John • May 5, 2020 at 1:42 pm
Zoos are abusive places; to all the people who don’t agree, imagine yourself as an animal, alone, depressed, and bored.
Rose Valleroy • May 4, 2020 at 10:58 am
I think that zoos are more cruel than cool. While they have an educational upside the downside is animal abuse and extinction.
Animals need lots of space to roam around in the wild. Zoos cannot provide this much space, This is usually the case for those species of animals who roam larger distances in their natural habitat. Polar bears have one million times less space in zoos than they do in the wild. That’s around 18,000 times less than the amount of space they need! Tigers and lions are two more animals who don’t have as much space in Zoos as they would in the wild.
Zoos are one of the primary causes for premature animal death worldwide, animals in Zoos are often mistreated and cannot live the way that they wish to live. In conclusion I think we should ban zoos because they take animals away from their natural habitat and plop them in a cramped up zoo, sometimes hundreds of miles away from their family and friends. “Some people say that animals in zoos live longer, but even though they could live longer, they still live an unhappy and lonely life.” says Sarah Schaefer, 6th Grade, a Guest Writer for The Eagle’s Call, and I think she’s right
ZOOS ARE CRUEL!

take Steve Irwin for an example he like to keep the animals safe and thought the animals how to survive in their environment so zoo’s shouldn’t be banned.
Student • Mar 11, 2020 at 2:06 pm
I think that even though animals are losing their wild instincts they are still taken care of and put in area that mimic their natural habitat. I have been to a few zoos and they say that they say that zoos try to mimic their natural habitat
Tom • Mar 9, 2020 at 12:09 pm
Zoos should not be banned because they can help endangered species. They can also help if the animal is sick. Kids like zoos and kids learn about animals. That’s why zoos should not be banned.
bob • Mar 5, 2020 at 9:21 am
i agree. but there should only be zoos that help injured and endangered species. no other zoos
21 • Mar 3, 2020 at 3:32 pm
Ok so zoos can be good in some ways but nobody really looks at the pain, stress, and sadness, in their eyes, they don’t get enough room to roam around bc most of them need entire oceans, deserts, jungles, and forests to run around in!!
me • Mar 2, 2020 at 4:12 pm
I believe that Zoos should be in business because if the animals are almost extinct we can use Zoos to help get them out of extinction.!

both sides of this argument have very good claims i agree with both tho …RIP harambe
ok boomer • Feb 19, 2020 at 12:06 pm
they house endangered animals and could save species.
Cyrille Winter • Feb 6, 2020 at 9:34 am
Zoos she be banned/abolished because animals do not deserve to be kept in cages and stared at. They were once in their naturally habitat and then some human takes them out and put them in a zoo for no good reason other than entertainment for younger children and adults.

in my opinion zoos should close because they are animals they are not entertainment for humans. They are like people too but you guys don’t see that. all you care for is yourself and your guys entertainment. like i live in Arizona and this polar bear died because someone threw a can soda in there. And that is another thing we aren’t careful enough with these animal. Yes maybe if they have been there for a long time and got use to it maybe those can stay there and they get free food but its not fare that they are kept in small areas. Animals are meant to be in the wild in there natural habitat. That’s my opinion.

zoos good thay are and bad to and ea like zoos to
E A • Jan 6, 2020 at 7:06 am
ok zoos are good because you can eat free food AND PLAY THE NEW EA GAME ZOOOOOOO LIFE
a_person • Jan 6, 2020 at 7:04 am
Honestly, I think this is a little dramatic. Now, I understand its bad for the animals to get taken away from its environment and for it to be put in a cage. But, its not like they’re not being fed and taken good care of.
ellina • Dec 3, 2019 at 3:06 pm
i think that zoos are not safe for animals what if the humans have food and they give it to the animals then the animals will die or even get sick of what the humans gave to the animals. THIS IS WHAT I THINK!
C • Aug 30, 2019 at 12:10 pm
BANNING ZOOS WOULD BE WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.
Jake Van Lear • Apr 9, 2019 at 10:36 am
this is all completely right. don’t forget that you can’t learn about zoos then everything is in a cage. that isn’t natural at all you should do learning in a classroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nicole • Feb 6, 2019 at 11:37 am
the facts can show either way it just depends on the zoo
Truman Melton • Dec 21, 2018 at 1:21 pm
Zoos shouldn’t be banned, so we can see odd animals we normally don’t see.
Anonymous • Nov 16, 2018 at 10:19 am
I agree with some things on this article, like how animals lose their wild instincts because they get used to being fed and tooken care of by other people. But a lot of zoos help amimals like if they are sick or injured. Zoos also provide research so we can learn about animals so we can help them in the future like from extinction or something.
Maidah Omar • Nov 15, 2018 at 1:51 pm
I think that they should be in their own habitat too, because when they are in a cage for our amusement that’s not fair to the animals.
Gabby • Nov 15, 2018 at 1:05 pm
I don’t agree with this article but it is well written. Most zoos take in endangered animals so that they can be kept out of hunters way.
Vic • Nov 15, 2018 at 9:58 am
Maybe instead of closing zoos secure zoos more
Maggie • Nov 15, 2018 at 9:01 am
This is a good artical. I don’t know if I agree with it but still well written.

The Minnesota Zoo and the Como Zoo project the animals. Most ofthe animals in the zoos are in “protected” or “endangered” status or are injured, or are otherwise unfit to live in the wild. Or they have been brought in to procreate with existing zoo animals.
Please visit your zoos, donate your money and/ or time. Sotarol with zoo staff …and volunteers anout their exhibits and animals.
Np, I am not zoo staff, but have visited many times, and speak with staff every time I’m there.

There are very strict laws about what animals can be in US zoos. Unless they were taken from the wild many years ago, they are now only allowed from the off-spring of already captive animals. They wouldn’t have a clue how to survive elsewhere.
As far as dangerous, yes they are wild animals with those instincts. Parents at zoos, and other places, MUST be aware of their surroundings and watch their kids appropriately. It was not the gorilla’s fault that a parent wasn’t in control of their child. The gorilla died for someone else’s poor parenting skills. Not his fault! He’s dead.
And no, they don’t get the same food every day. Zoos are required by regulation to provide balanced, nutritious meals. They also provide enrichment with challenges like ant hills for chimps to dig food from much like they do in the wild.
I would suggest that anyone who doesn’t understand the importance of the animal husbandry that many zoos participate in or the true treatment they receive, might benefit from a summer camp at our local zoo next summer.

I would rather be in a cage and fed meals that are fine for animals than be iut in the wild with the potential to mauled to death by a lion or bear.
