Venom takes over movie theaters

Brodyn Ward, Staff Writer

Venom was released in theaters October 5, 2018. There was a lot of hype about it due to it being the character’s first feature film, but is Venom really worth the hype?

Tom Hardy stars as the anti-hero Venom and the alter-ego journalist Eddie Brock. Eddie Brock is struggling, he lost his job, and was left by his wife. However, after being infected by one of the aliens, known as symbiotes, his life takes a drastic turn.

Overall the movie is great, but there are some issues. The fight scenes were immersive, but the final fight scene seemed rushed. The CGI was pretty realistic and well executed.

The design of Venom himself is unique because in the comics he has a big symbol on his chest and his body looks smooth, but in the movie, he looks slimy and has a whole new design with no symbol and his figure is more masculine. He looks really different from the original spider man films. In the original ones, he was pretty average sized, but in the new movie, he is huge. He also has his iconic long tongue in the new movie. I would say his character design is a lot better than past Venom designs.

The story was pretty good, but the beginning felt slow and boring. It developed and became more interesting when Venom made his appearance. Venom was an interesting character to see in his own movie, mostly because of his voice which seemed deeper and edgier.  While that is neither a good or bad thing, it seemed more accurate to the character.

Venom was a fun movie to watch, and I would say it is worth the hype and worth seeing.
