Why I Think Euthanasia Isn’t Humane

If you don’t know what euthanasia is, euthanasia is the practice of killing an animal (or sometimes a person) with a painless solution, or gas, with merciful intent. The term is also called “Mercy Killing”. But, is this merciful? Or even decent? I think not.

People might euthanize an animal to “end their suffering,” which comes usually when an animal is old and, suffering. For a pet to be euthanized,  they need to be brought to the vet, which almost always causes stress. The point of euthanasia is for pets to die in a calm, painless way, right?

Well, if I were a pet, I don’t think I would like to be carted in a small carrier to a place that smells strange, and then spend my final moments on a stressful exam table, being injected by a needle. That doesn’t sound “calm” or “peaceful” or even “merciful”.

And think about the owners of these pets who sit at the table, holding their pet, as they die right in their arms. How would you think they feel? Guilty? Anxious? It’s not peaceful for anyone, or anything.
