Get to know Mrs. Cherner

Jonah Constans, A&E Editor

Why did Mrs. Cherner decide to teach? It was because she thought it would make an impact on children’s lives, because music had made such an impact on hers.

Mrs. Cherner has known her career path for quite a while. “I’ve wanted to teach since kindergarten,” she said. One thing she probably didn’t know in kindergarten was that she’d end up wanting to teach middle schoolers.

Currently Mrs. Cherner teaches a variety of music classes in sixth through twelfth grade, and she enjoys them both. When asked which grade is most annoying, she said, “It changes every year.”

Mrs. Cherner taught in other cities, such as Edina and Robbinsdale, before she started working in Apple Valley.

Outside of school, her hobbies include tennis and cooking. Her favorite music genre is broadway music, also known as show tunes. Four things on her bucket list are to learn a language, to travel to many places, including Israel, to learn to play the cello, and to take a Cordon Bleu class. She has two children that she loves to talk about (And her students love talking about them, too!).
